ITS-SIDS

Participants will receive an overview of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) giving them the knowledge to identify SIDS risk factors and describe ways to reduce the risk of SIDS in child care. The national standards for sleep safety will be presented and resources will be shared for both child care providers and parents. Topics include NC SIDS Laws, child care licensing rules for safe sleep, as well as how to develop a safe sleep policy. Key messages of this training include engaging in safe sleep practices and creating a safe sleep environment for infants and toddlers.

Activity Planning

Participants will work together and compile a variety of activities to include in their daily schedules. This hands-on training will assist providers in developing plans that incorporate Foundations, as well as meet the criteria set forth by NC Child Care Rules, while making experiences fun and engaging for young children. All participants are encouraged to bring previously used activity plans to share with the group. Successes and challenges with activity planning will be discussed.

Medications in Child Care

Prevention and Response to Emergencies Due to Food and Allergic Reactions

Participants will learn to recognize signs and symptoms of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. They will become familiar with proper storage and documentation for epinephrine auto-injectors and will learn proper response to allergic reactions and emergency follow-up procedures.

Building and Physical Premises Safety

Participants learn causes of injuries both indoors and outdoors in early child care settings. The training emphasizes the importance of supervision and describes how to implement safety in a learning environment.

Letters to Santa

CPR/First Aid December

Participants will become certified in Red Cross approved basic adult, child, and infant CPR and First Aid. The primary purpose of this training is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. The training is designed to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and decide whether advanced medical care is needed.
